No, it’s not technically Tuesday for this tidbits. And yes, we went AWOL last week…but things are back on track. Here is the excusejustification… reason for our delinquent posting.

Often times I post that things are crazy on our end. The last month has been over the top! Additionally, Trent has been gone a TON with his company. He is officially back home now (whew!) but he sent me this pic while he was in the outback of Australia. I teased with him that he was really just in Nevada. But seriously, he was so deep in the outback that it’s tough to even find it on a map.

As Niles can testify to, when Trent is gone we sometimes do our own thing. I still had plenty of work to do…Niles did not.

I always use Trent’s time away to practice recipes that I don’t want to try on people without first testing. This time I tried several great recipes, but this little appetizer/finger food/snack was a clear winner! And it’s super simple:

  • 1 small loaf of fresh french bread
  • Brie cheese
  • Garlic salt
  • Butter
  • Any type of jam/jelly

Cut the french bread into 1/2″ slices and place on a cookie sheet. Swipe a little butter over the top of each slice and sprinkle some garlic salt. Place a thin slice of brie cheese on each piece of bread and bake at 375 degrees for 6-8 minutes (until the cheese melts). Pull out the cheesy bread and swipe a little jam over the top. Seriously the simplest, fast and kind of fancy looking appetizer you can make. And you can create multiple combos (use honey instead of jam, use apple slices instead of jam, use dried apricots instead of jam, etc).

Thankfully, spring is OFFICIALLY here!!! Yesterday evening I looked out a window and spotted my first robin of the season. I was so happy to see him that I considered throwing him a welcome home party.

In honor of spring, I decided to change out a couple of room scents. I purchased the small reed diffusers ($5.99) from Pier 1 Imports and the scent Pink Champagne is super light and clean. It just screams spring.

If you follow along on our Facebook or Instagram page, you know that I was begging for help on our front porch urns. It’s too early to plant summer flowers and it’s too late to still have winter decor out. You guys delivered and gave me tons of great ideas. In the end, I decided to plant pansies. And in case you are wanting to do the same, allow me to save you 8-9 hours of work. NO ONE IN OUR AREA IS CURRENTLY SELLING PANSIES! I went everywhere. I had friends who live further north telling me they had them available and I had friends 2 hours south telling me they had them available…we do not. I tried 3 different Lowes, I tried Home Depot. I tried Ginger Valley (who says they will have them on April 6th). I tried Vites (who does not open until April 1st). I tried Varners. I tried Sawyer’s Home and Garden Center. In the end, I learned that Sawyer’s Home and Garden Center is expecting a shipment this Friday…in two days. So, if this is something you are looking to plant, you are welcome. With my urns still empty (only until Friday, I hope) I decided that something HAD to be done. I found these two wreaths on sale ($22 each at Pier 1 Imports) and put them on the front doors.

And in case you are wondering, I always use the 3M Command strips to hang these types of things. They are insanely strong, inexpensive and truly do NOT damage anything.

That’s it! Our last couple of weeks in a very condensed summary. Far more exciting stuff coming in the near future (like actual, fun projects). Enjoy the first day of spring and thank you for following along!

That picture of Trent is cool but holy cow! I am looking for a lurking lion in the background somewhere.

Just curious. Who ate the the recipes that you tried? I appreciate the recipes you post because I know they will be good.
Going to try the French bread appetizers this weekend.

I eat the recipes! If the leftovers can be frozen, then I save them. If not, I try to share with friends or neighbors (when they turn out okay).

I would be questioning if it was really Australia or just Nevada. Honestly, who goes all the way to Australia and doesn’t take pictures of kangaroos and koalas! They have them down there in places other than zoos.
