Yes…it’s a later than usual Tuesday Tidbits post. I have no excuse other than it was simply a busy day. However, we are fully into 2019 and loving every minute of it!

Given our un-winter like weather, we were able to work on a smaller project outside. We have tons of lights around the front/sides of the house…but I begged nicely for some on the backside of the garage. It was just too dark. Now it’s perfect!

I have started on the many nail holes that we have in our new trim/casing around the breezeway. I’m also running around looking for any spots that got missed in the house…and then placing a pink post-it note so I won’t forget it.

I plan to do a full blog post (later this week) about January/February house stuff. However, I do leave some “winter” decor items after I remove Christmas decor. The metal reindeer are on our dining table (they were on the fireplace with lights during Christmas). Personally, I feel like they are true winter decor.

A friend gave me an amaryllis plant and it is in full bloom! I think it’s going to have 5 flowers from the one bloom by the end. So much fun to have something blooming during January.

While Trent and I do have some New Year’s Resolutions, but I don’t need to bore you with them. I will tell you that this one particular piano piece has been taunting me for decades. Decades. I remember my mother playing it and now I have her book. I tried as a kid to play it and couldn’t (because I was like 10 years old and just imitating what I heard mostly). I tried again as a college kid and didn’t give it the time it deserved. Throughout my adult life I have pulled it out randomly and never gotten beyond the second page. So this is one of my resolutions for this year. I will get this entire piece. And when I do, I will share a portion of it here. It may take me 12 weeks or 12 months (depends on how much time I give it)…but I’m conquering it this year. Do you have any resolutions???

As always have a wonderful week and thank you for following along!

I think you and your husband should sit at each far end of the table like they did in the movies of the 30’s and 40’s lol

Just curious. In which room do the two of you go to relax, have a glass of wine or watch some TV?

We have televisions (on the main floor) in both the family room and the piano room (parlor). If we are just hanging out in the evening, we are generally in the family room.

I am curious about the outdoor lighting….. are you concerned about safety in Buchanan? Do you leave them on all night or just a few evening hours, maybe special occasions? How can you (and those living nearby) see the stars at night with all those lights? Please take a look at this article about light pollution: https://www.darksky.org/light-pollution/

Our lights are set with a daylight timer (so the exterior lights turn on as soon as the sun sets and turn off when the sun rises). Since we live in the city (and next door to a business) the light pollution is going to be there regardless…but we can still see the stars perfectly from our skylight windows.☺️
And yes, the last few months have been rough for our little town with break-ins and general trouble. We do ultimately have the lights for security.

How did you add lights to your garage? Are they permanently wired in or are they stick up lights? I would like to add some outdoor lighting but I’m not sure how to do it without calling an electrician to re-wire the house.

These are hard wired lights that we did around the entire exterior of our home. We wired it for all the lights when we did all the electrical for the entire house (while it was gutted).
