While this post is a little different from the usual house stuff it is extra special because I have teamed up with Wayfair to bring you a super easy cookie making and buying guide for Spritz Cookies. If you don’t know what these cookies are, they are the most simple cookies that always end up looking amazing…and they just scream Christmas! While I’m not horrible in the kitchen, my stuff rarely looks “amazing”. However, these cookies are the exception and I love it!
In our home, we don’t call these Spritz Cookies (their appropriate name) – we call them One Bite Cookies. Because obviously. A dear friend (shout out to Lisa V!) makes these cookies often and I decided I had inhaled enough of her cookies and should learn to do them myself. They are SO simple! I found the recipe online, bought a cookie press and started in on the project.
While there are many recipes online, the one I found (and modified ever so slightly) is as follows:
3 sticks of butter (softened…but not melted)
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp of vanilla (I use the real deal…not extract)
3 1/2 cups of flour
I preheated the oven to 375 and make sure to use a room temp or chilled cookie sheet. I used mine at room temp and it worked, but I can definitely tell how chilling a cookie sheet would make it easier (it’s just an extra step and I’m all about skipping a step if possible).
Mix all ingredients together and do NOT refrigerate the dough. Most cookies I make are much easier to create if the dough has been refrigerated. Not the case on this….trust me. I used a smaller spatula and started squeezing in as much dough to the top of the cookie press as possible.
Then you have to work quickly. It sounds silly, but I actually sat on top of the counter because the cookies came out of the press “prettier” if I was able to press down straight and without any angle. I’m not short, but the only way I could comfortably do this was to sit on the countertop. If you are using sprinkles or course sugar, now is the time to sprinkle that on top of each cookie.
Then, I popped them into my oven (I was using the convection heating) and they only took 8 minutes. You will want to make sure you remove them at the exact moment they start to turn golden. If you go any longer, they will burn. (Yes, this means you have to stand and watch the oven the last minute or so.)
As soon as you pull them out of the oven, place them onto cooling racks immediately (since they are so small, you really do have to move fast). If you are using traditional icing, now is the time to ice each cookie.
The cookie press that I purchased (OXO) has the disks available on Wayfair, but not the actual press. To be honest, it wasn’t my favorite and the reviews confirmed it. So, I ordered a new cookie press (Wilton Preferred Cookie Press) and I can’t wait to use it. The reviews are amazing and I don’t know about you, but I buy based on reviews…always!

While a traditional Spritz Cookie just has sprinkles or course sugar on top, Trent likes icing on top. So…I make a few with icing on top (and I’ll admit they taste pretty good). My icing is the most basic milk/powdered sugar/vanilla (I just eyeball it).
As I said at the start, a little different from the usual house blog posts, but hopefully helpful info to you. If you decide to make some Spritz Cookies of your own, do what we do and count them like us…3 cookies equals 1 normal cookie (which means eating 9 cookies is more like 3 normal cookies).
