I’m so excited for this Tuesday Tidbits because we have major progress on the exterior! We have been saying since the start that we would re-open the original doorway on the west side of the house. It was bricked over decades ago, but originally had a third porch. We debated back and forth and decided to put in a patio. The sidewalk leads back to our driveway…which will prove helpful to have one more door for visitors to approach.¬†**I’m completely kidding about visitors having more options. We have so many exterior doors that it’s almost¬†comical to watch people try and decide which one to use.**

While we have not taken a sledge hammer to the actual doorway just yet, it’s coming very soon! As of right now we have stairs that lead to nowhere…but that will change soon.

This is what the spot looked like at the start of the week.

And here is the progress.

You can see the contractors working hard in this pic. What you can’t see is that a cement truck draws a crowd of neighborhood boys…every single time! It was pretty hysterical to look out and see all ages checking it out. I can admit that the process IS pretty interesting.

I’m so happy with how it turned out!

When the door was bricked over they (thankfully) left the original doorsill. This made the process much easier!

And as you can imagine, Niles sat inside all day watching the soon-to-be-doorway.

Funny story: on Sunday Trent and I drove to Detroit because he had a large amount of out-of-town family in for a reunion. We rang the doorbell and the most adorable little 9 year old girl opened the door. Turned out she was a cousin’s daughter that we had never met. Trent introduced us and said he was her dad’s cousin. She looked at us and said “oh, you’re Niles’ mom and dad.”

Have a wonderful week and thank you for following along!

Wow, the patio is already completed, that was certainly quick work. It looks like there was some sort of structure like a porch attached around where the door was? It seems like animals can either sense or hear things better then we can (probably both). My neighbor dog, Hank, can hear me clicking the back door from almost two hundred feet away and is out of his coupe for what might be a treat from me.

Looking good! Does add a finished touch and connects to new garage so attractively. Funny story…could be known for worse things than Nile’s mom and dad!
