It has been another busy week for this Tuesday Tidbits. I have been going through the house with my caulking gun and then touching up all the trim paint. I have so many touch ups to do on the walls, but I think I’ll do that last (like after the larger furniture has been brought in).

As I have mentioned before, once we gutted the house we could easily see there was originally another door and window in the kitchen. We knew immediately that we wanted to re-created these options. Sadly, we had no clue what it would take.

We took off the original door to help us re-create the new one (to look completely identical). We also used this time to send numerous photos and measurements to a window company that built a matching window. They even made it out of the same wood the original windows are made of.

We installed the new window and placed the original door. Then we cobbled together spare trim parts for both the window and door.

This weekend we were able to remove the plywood after we installed the door re-created to perfectly match the original one (original door is on the left). The match on both the window and door are pretty close…VERY close. The amount of extra light that comes in from the window and door is amazing! I told Trent we were going to start wearing sunglasses in our kitchen. IT. IS. SO. BRIGHT. I’m not complaining about the natural light. But it is SO Bright!!!

We were also able to get the final closet (for now) put together. It’s a smaller walk-in, but has plenty of space for things.

We are down to some very trivial items at this point. It will still be a couple of weeks before we actually move in, but I might start taking over my spring/summer clothes this next week (because I clearly won’t be wearing them in the near future).

There will be another blog post this week on Friday with some amazing comparison photos, so make sure to check back.

As always, thank you for following along and have a wonderful week!

    What company did the windows?

It was an architectural company out of Iowa (apparently one of the few that can replicate old windows). We were impressed…with the quality, not the price.😂 If you want the name and number, I can get it for you.
