Another Tuesday and another bunch of Tidbits! The staircase is officially starting today! There are SO many parts, it’s insane. It’s hard to grasp the size of things because everything is so big in this house…but trust me, it’s a lot of hickory, it’s huge and it’s heavy (Trent and I moved every single piece and it was not one of our finer moments).

These are the solid nickel balusters that I “had to have” as Trent would say. They each weigh about 25lbs (not even joking).

Just to give you a little bit of perception on the size, here is a box cutter next to 2 of the newels. These guys are 5′ tall.

The teakwood is complete on both the master shower and the upstairs guest shower. We have done the teakwood before on a shower ceiling as a pretty accent. This time was less about the form and more about the function. The ceilings for both upstairs showers obviously slant with the roof. We knew that we needed something to keep the moisture away and this seemed to be the best answer.

While we haven’t had a chance to enjoy one of the Thursday evening concerts in Buchanan, YOU totally should! I drove by last week and stopped my car just long enough to hear a few notes from an orchestra and snap a pic. It really does seem to be a lovely evening and I believe the free concerts (of various styles and artists) are every Thursday evening at 7pm in The Commons area downtown. What a fun way to spend a summer evening!

Wow, that stairway is going to be beautiful when done. The hickory wood is so nice to see. It has made many a ax and hammer handle too being a tough, strong wood. My Father-In-Law and I cut hickory trees on his farm to cure bacon sides and hams. Things are shaping up and you both are doing a great job on your home……

Hickory is my absolute favorite wood. The stairs are going to be amazing….can’t wait to see it all put together. You both deserve to take an hour off and go enjoy the concerts…it will revitalize you and give you the extra energy you need to finish your showcase home đŸ™‚
