It has been a few weeks since we have shared some of our Friday Favorites…and we have a couple more things to add to the favorite list!
If you live in the Michiana area, you know that the general rule of thumb is to plant flowers after Mother’s Day. I decided this past Saturday to head over to a nursery to grab just a few flowers to make the house look a little warmer on the exterior. Generally, I go to Varner’s and it’s always a disaster. Complete chaos, long lines and so crowded it’s impossible to find anything. Since the house is in Buchanan, I decided to try Vite Greenhouse. Friends: if you absolutely must go flower shopping on Mother’s Day weekend go to Vite’s. In fact, if you are going flower/plant shopping ever go to Vite’s. The place was insanely busy, but they were prepared. The parking was easy, there were plenty of carts, the aisles were large enough to pass someone and their checkout was AWESOME. Bonus: the employees were so pleasant. If you haven’t been there but live in the area, this place is amazing. **I was not given any sort of discount or freebie to say this. They are just that good!**
Another favorite is our hardwood flooring. It’s not installed yet, but just being able to look at it waiting to be installed is a great feeling. We have always used 3/4″ thick, real hardwood for flooring. I know there is a time and place for the engineered woods and the laminate woods. We love the real deal. If you are considering wood in your home, please at least look at the 3/4″ thick options. This is the only type of wood floor you can sand and re-stain over the years. You should not use 3/4″ thick wood in any bathroom. It will warp from water and moisture.

This is Brian, the carpenter who is building both of our fireplaces. He should be finished with both fireplaces in the next week and I promise to do a huge blog post showing you both finished fireplaces. (I’ll also make sure to include his contact info since he’s pretty great to work with!) For now, I’ll leave you with this photo. It’s not done yet, but the large fireplace is going to be a definite favorite in the house.
The small one is shaping up beautifully, as well!
As always, thank you for following along and have a wonderful weekend!
