Let the record show you were right. You guys were SO right! On January 29th of this year, we officially purchased our home. Within 30 minutes of posting on our blog and Facebook page about the new purchase we received many messages that went something like this:

“Start buying your Halloween candy.”

“Hope you have a savings account for Halloween.”

“Candy is on sale at Wal-Mart, you should go buy several bags for Halloween.”

Admittedly, I looked at these comments and rolled my eyes. It’s January. C’mon. Who thinks about Halloween in January?! And then this week (yes, the last week in August) Trent and I pull into our new, lovely little town of Buchanan and OH MY GOODNESS! Halloween, Fall, Harvest (whatever we are calling it) has arrived. We looked at each other and giggled because you Buchanan peeps mean business. So, we were wrong and you were right.

It should be noted that it’s absolutely the most charming thing ever. If you don’t live in Buchanan, you should drive through…it looks so perfect.

On a totally different note, if you see any candy on a killer sale please message me! While the house won’t be done for Halloween, we will be on that front porch handing out candy. It may cost us a small fortune, but we will be there!

Such a wonderful idea for community spirit! Check out pictures of Cambtia, CA for ideas! They do this also.

Read your blog because my mother was from Buchanan. Have to comment on Halloween on the waterfront of Newport News, VA: We have between 500-600 trick-or-treaters! Nearby church groups unload vans of children. Our sidewalk can be so full that there it is single file coming and going. We can give out 100 pieces in 15 minutes! It’s awesome….but I too look for the bargain chocolate bars. 🎃🕷

Your pictures made me homesick. I live in an Iowa town now that is very like Buchanan where my mom grew up. I spent lots of time at my grandparents and aunts just a few blocks from your home. These pictures are what I love about that town, and even though the town I live in is similar, it’s still not Buchanan.

I’ve been living in Buchanan for about 13 years now and I love it here. It is quite a charming little town. We decorate for Christmas too!
