If you follow along on Facebook or Instagram, you know that this week (yes, the hottest week this summer) we decided to install the siding on the garage. Naturally, if we could have picked a nice 65-70 degree week that would have been our first choice…but it’s just not how this usually works. Thankfully, we both enjoy the heat and made sure to stay well hydrated!
Our original plan was to do actual hardi plank for the siding. However, Trent did some research and realized that actual hardi would be EXTREMELY heavy, require screws (instead of nails) and only came in 12′ lengths (the longest ones). What he found was a nice hardi plank composite that has the same life expectancy, but was MUCH lighter and came in 16′ lengths. Also, this composite product came primed…bonus! While we will still need to paint it all, the truly difficult task is over.
First, the trim was installed (it’s 6″ wide and will be painted white).
Then, the actual siding (12″ wide) was installed around the entire garage and breezeway. It will be painted something complimentary to the brick on the house. Still deciding…
The back side of the garage was the very last part and as we were (clearly) only about 3 rows from completion, this storm rolled in! However, it was fast moving, gave us a little break and cooled off the temps. Plus, it was just pretty to watch.
It will still take some time before it is truly “complete” but these final pics will have to do for now.
